Mucocutaneous leishmaniasis: does it really exist in Pakistan?

Abstract

Mucocutaneous leishmaniasis is considered to be a disease of the New World. It has rarelybeen reported from our part of the world. A 2-year-old child reported from an endemic areaof cutaneous leishmaniasis with clinically suggestive lesions of CL over cutaneous as well asmucosal surfaces of the lip and nose. Diagnosis was confirmed on slit skin smear preparationand he was treated with intramuscular injection of meglumine antimonite (glucantime). Abrief review of the condition is also presented along with the case report.
