Leishmaniasis is a major world health problem, which is increasing in incidence. New casesof cutaneous leishmaniasis are being reported in Pakistan from previously non-endemic areas.This protozoal disease is transmitted by sandflies and may produce a variety of clinicalpictures, including some rare and unusual presentations. Treatment is often delayed due topoorly managed cases, non-availability of laboratory facilities or appropriate drugs. Atypicalpresentations can sometimes perplex even the most experienced. Early diagnosis andtreatment with correct dosage of antimony are essential for and effective outcome. Thisreview focuses on the different aspects of cutaneous leishmaniasis with especial emphasis incontext of Pakistan.Downloads
